On November 22, the School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) at Tsinghua University hosted the Nanomaterials Symposium to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the joint program between Tsinghua University and Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology). The symposium aimed to review the achievements of the collaboration, explore future directions, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field of materials science. Attendees included Prof. NAKAJIMA Ken, director of the nanomaterials program at the Institute of Science Tokyo; professors IWAMOTO Mitsumasa, IMAOKA Takane, and SHI Ji; Prof. LIN Yuanhua, Dean of SMSE; Prof. CHEN Dongyue, Assistant Dean and director of Tsinghua University's nanomaterials program; Prof. LI Qian, Director of Graduate Affairs Team; and over ten teachers and students from SMSE. The symposium was chaired by Prof. CHEN Dongyue and Prof. SHI Ji in the first and second half-sessions, respectively.

Prof. LIN Yuanhua gave his opening remarks for the symposium firstly. He opened the symposium with a warm welcome to the delegation from the Institute of Science Tokyo. Then, he reviewed the 20-year history of the collaborative program and its remarkable achievements. Prof. LIN conveyed his confidence in the future of the partnership between the two universities and expressed his hopes that the program would continue to grow, contributing further to academic collaboration, talent cultivation, and cultural exchange between the two institutions.

The symposium covered a wide range of topics in the field of nanomaterials, spanning from fundamental research to application development. Areas discussed included nanogenerators, advanced sensors, novel functional materials, catalyst design, and energy storage technologies. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on pressing issues in nanomaterials research and extensively exchanged views on potential paths for future collaboration in education and research. The presentations reflected the diversity and high academic standards of the collaborative program, encompassing both theoretical exploration and practical applications.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Ken Nakajima, head of the nanomaterials program at the Institute of Science Tokyo, expressed gratitude to SMSE for the meticulous organization of the symposium and to all professors and students for their active participation. He emphasized the importance of the partnership and expressed his anticipation for continued collaboration with Tsinghua University to advance nanomaterials research to higher levels, broader fields, and deeper dimensions, jointly tackling future scientific challenges.
